Lake Quannapowit 6/27/13
Hit up lake Quannapowit today hoping for a Lunker. I didn't get one but got 4 keepers. I was hoping I could just stick a video in here and that would be that but noooooo. Trip wizard won't let me. So I'll tell ya. Conditions were 67 degree air temp with fog and low cloud cover. It was raining off and on. These are perfect buzzbait conditions. Let me first say that I've never had much luck at this lake aside from one really good day. which happened to be raining. I start off to the left of the ramp where there are some nice lay downs along the cemetery's shoreline. No takers on a buzzbait, crankbait, jig or soft plastic. Stupid awesome looking laydown. I continue along. There are some pads in about 2 feet of water. I Buzz the edges. I crank the edges. I walk the dog. Jig, soft plastic craw and then finally start punching the pads. Zip, Zilch, nadda.
Theres a long point that drops off to 5 feet on the back side, about 8 on the end and the front. I crank it and drag the jig and the craw around. Nothing. Moving on. More pads. More of the same. After about an hour and just when I'm thinking I should have gone somewhere else my buzzbait gets hammered. Bam. Nice 2 1/2-3 pounder along the edge of the pads. About 5 casts later I grab a 2 pounder. I hand around that area for a little while with no more fish. After the pads ended the shoreline still looked good. Lots of overgrown bushed and tree overhangs. Lots of wood in the water. Nothing. It stays about 2 ft deep for about 50 yards off the shoreline so I went out to that firs depth change and started cranking weedlines. Got a 1 1/2 pounder on a rapala square bill clackin rap. I worked my way to the opposite shoreline from where I had started my day. There are lots of weeds and rocks here. As it was getting dark I tied on a half ounce double bladed buzzbait. I prefer black in these conditions but recently lost my last one so I'm throwing white. I pretty much stick with those 2 colors (I just ordered more and got a white/chartreuse for sh*ts and giggles). Theres a tree overhanging the water in like 2 ft. I'm making casts all around it and finally grab my 4th fish as I pass by the tree. It's another good fish in the 2 pound range. I continue down that shoreline a bit longer but now it's dark, foggy and rainy. Time to go. Recap: not bad. 4 hours, 4 decent fish on a lake that's known for quality over quantity. I saw about a half a million carp. I don't know if a huge carp populations affects the bass population...Blackstone?
i've seen carp colored crankbaits. i forget who makes them though. maybe bandit? i see carp thrashing all over and spawning. it's annoying.
It won't accept the video. Stupid trip wizard. http://youtu.be/YFZ0-ikEVAU
